Some of the nation’s leading thinkers and practitioners of new media headline Texas Southern University’s School of Communication Week Conference scheduled for April 15-19 in the Martin Luther King Jr. Building.
This year’s program is being held in conjunction with the 32nd Annual Intercultural Communication Conference in which “Social Media Across Cultures: Engaging Audiences” will be the theme.
Roland Martin, who was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists for 2013, and Columbia University’s Chief Digital Officer and social media guru, Sree Sreenivasan, will speak via Skype. Additionally, Mathew Knowles, father of superstar Beyonce, Hollywood filmmakers, TV, radio personalities, content creators and scholars will share their perspectives on the ethical use of social media in their professions.
“The week-long conference will help us learn and understand why it is important for students and the community at large to be social media savvy and actively engaged, “ said Professor Chris Ulasi, chairperson of the TSU ‘CommWeek’ 2013 committee.
“We are increasingly affected on so many levels in our daily lives by messages disseminated through the vast array of social media platforms,” Ulasi added.
On Friday, April 19, there will be a student film festival, jazz festival and student scholarship banquet.
The conference will be streamed live and carried across multiple social media platforms. A blog showcasing the panels and presenters will go live the week of the conference. You can follow the live event tweets via the hashtag #TSUSMC13.
