Nigeria Evans has overcome insurmountable odds. The brave 32-year-old Houstonian had a heart transplant in 2009. Her mother said before the heart procedure, Nigeria flatlined five times. Today she is healthy and telling others about the importance and life saving power of organ donation programs. This photo essay captures her as a teenager and when she lived with the assistance of a device that helped her heart work. Nigeria is determined to make her life count.
